Would you rather…? 40 dilemmas for your party

Two options, no right answer and just one rule: pick one. Vote, see how everyone else answered, then challenge a friend to find out if you think alike.

In the app, dilemmas hide among the Truths and Questions.

The idea fits in one sentence: you get two choices and you have to keep one. Here, every dilemma then shows how other players voted, and you can send your challenge to a friend to compare your answers. The levels go from mild to spicy: start with the first one and move up when the mood is right.

Your turn

How do you play “Would you rather” at a party?

One person reads the dilemma out loud, counts to three, and everyone shows their pick at the same time: left hand for the first option, right hand for the second. Nobody can change their mind after seeing the others. Whoever ends up in the minority defends their choice in one sentence, then the next person reads the following dilemma.

To spice things up, the minority draws one of our forfeits for the loser. For a long-distance night, everyone plays on this page and sends their challenge to the others: the link compares your answers one by one. And if the group wants more, WillYouDare also hides “this or that?” dilemmas among its Truths and Questions, next to the dares, roles and secret missions. The Truth or Dare rules explain how it all fits together.

3 tips for writing your own

What makes a good “would you rather” question?

How do you write a good dilemma?

Two short, concrete options of equal weight. If everyone answers the same way, the dilemma has failed: the best ones split the group in two and start a story.

Why keep it concrete?

You should be able to picture the scene in a second. “Your mom comments on all your photos” gets more reactions than “being embarrassed in public”: the more specific the dilemma, the funnier the answers.

Should you aim at the people around the table?

Yes, that’s what makes it personal: an ex, a friend in the room, tonight’s party. A variant: guess what your neighbor would pick, then let them confirm, just like the Questions in WillYouDare.
